Weathering Grief Support Groups are monthly support groups (held in two locations) for adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one through any type of death. They are open, drop-in groups where individuals can participate without pre-registration and attend as many or few sessions as they desire. There is no fee.
All Weathering Grief Support Groups meet from 7 to 8:30 pm in these locations:
2nd Monday of every month VNA Hospice Office, 160 Hindman Road, Butler, PA
3rd Tuesday of every month Armstrong County Health Center, 265 South McKean Street, Kittanning, PA

Bridges: Learning Your Way Through Grief is a five week grief education and support group that is offered 2-3 times a year in the Butler and Armstrong County area. It focuses on a holistic approach to healing and is intended for adults whose loss occurred at least 3 months before the start of the group. A limited number of participants are accepted into the program and pre-registration is required. Participants are expected to attend all sessions and no new participants are taken into the group once it has started. There is no fee.

Holiday Grief: Surviving the Season is a community presentation offered in collaboration with local funeral homes who sponsor and host the program in November or December. Participants learn ideas for coping with grief at holidays. The sponsors of the program require pre-registration but there is no fee.  2008 dates and locations will be announced in October.  

Parent to Parent: Peer Support for Bereaved Parents is a group led by other parents who have lost children. They offer support, education and hope for parents, grandparents and other adults who are trying to deal with this unthinkable loss. Beginning July 1, 2008, this group will meet monthly on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30 PM. There is no fee to attend. Pre-registration is suggested before attending the first time. Please note: The Parent to Parent meetings for May 20, and June 3. 2008 have been cancelled.

Transitions: After the Loss of a Partner is a peer support group that meets monthly in the VNA Hospice Office, 160 Hindman Road, Butler, PA. This group is not intended for the newly bereaved but is most appropriate for widows and widowers after the 6 month anniversary of the death. It has a discussion component as well as opportunities to sign up for casual group social outings. Call the bereavement department at 724-431-3520 for more information.

Precious Dreams is a monthly support group for anyone who has experienced infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death. The focus is on the normal grief process and the impact of a special kind of loss; the loss of dreams. The program meets from 7-8:30 pm on the 2nd Tuesday at ACMH Hospital, Conference Room 1 (2nd floor), One Nolte Drive, Kittanning, PA. There is no fee; registration is not required.
