Infant Phototherapy

Now infants diagnosed with Jaundice can be tested and treated safely in the home environment. VNA offers the newest technology with the Respironics BiliChek™ Bilirubin System and the Wallaby® Phototherapy System.

The BiliChek™ Bilirubin System measures serum bilirubin levels gently - and without a blood sample. Just lightly press the monitor to the baby’s chest and the unit displays the bilirubin level. No pain, no waiting, and no risk of infection. Our VNA nurses are trained in the use of the BiliChek™ Bilirubin System in the home. Now, there’s no more need for the heel stick by the home care nurse or a special visit to the outpatient clinics. And, best of all, no more tears!

The new Wallaby® Phototherapy System is simply a blanket which, when wrapped around the infant’s torso, delivers effective therapy to jaundiced babies. And best of all there is no light bed so the therapy is completely safe for the baby’s eyes. The unit weighs only 7.2 pounds and the cable is long enough to permit feeding or nursing while the therapy is taking place. There is no longer a need to cover the baby’s eyes as all light treatment is delivered through the blanket. Mothers or caregivers are instructed on the use of the blankets and, as always, the VNA is always there to answer any questions they may have.
