LIFE Celebrates Nutrition Month and National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day

March 13th was Dietitian Nutritionist Day, and we celebrated the incredible work of our Clinical Nutrition Team here at the LIFE Programs of Armstrong, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties. The LIFE Registered Dietitians and Diet Technicians are dedicated to helping participants make healthy, delicious, and sustainable food choices.

This month’s theme, “Beyond the Table,” reminds us of the impact our nutrition choices have on both our health and the environment. Throughout March, LIFE’s Clinical Nutrition team hosted a variety of activities for the LIFE participants, including nutrition presentations, cooking demonstrations, and fun nutrition-related games and crafts.

Lutheran SeniorLife also gives a special recognition to the amazing cooks who prepare the delicious meals served at our LIFE centers and for delivery to our participant homes. Their dedication ensures that nutritious and tasty meals are always on the menu.

We are grateful to this team for their dedication and expertise in helping everyone to make healthier choices, benefiting both themselves and the planet.

LIFE Armstrong County Hosts Candy Trivia Gameshow

Easter is just around the corner, so LIFE Armstrong County thought it was a perfect time to play a little game of Candy Trivia. Robin Bowser, Recreation Therapy Manager, took a break from her day job to play gameshow host, asking participants 20 questions about candy and requiring them to buzz in with buzzers on their table (or for one table whose buzzer stopped working, to say “beep beep!”). From the history of candy to fun facts like which candy bar was included in US Soldiers’ rations during WW2 (spoiler alert: it’s the Heath Bar!) and “When is National Candy Day?” (October 30th, the day before Halloween), everyone learned a lot.

Candy aficionado, Ruth, the beloved 89-year-old participant was in all her glory answering questions with a bag of candy close by. What is Ruth’s favorite, you may be wondering?

“My favorite candy is chocolate,” she proudly declared eating a piece of it. “I love it a whole lot, any kind of it.” Some even say her youthful spirit and infectious energy come from her love of chocolate!

With a table decorated and set up with various pots of gold and leprechauns, participants took aim at with nerf guns to try and win prizes. Participants enthusiastically cheered each other on as they honed their marksmanship skills, aiming to knock down the festive targets.

Participants made sure to dress for the occasion including Gloria Jarrett, Kathy McCollim, and Catherine “Kitty” Weaver.
